I am a journalist, editor, and public relations/strategic communication expert with over 20 years of experience telling Nigeria’s story while helping organisations communicate effectively. Currently, I serve as Assistant Editor at THISDAY Newspapers and Editor of the weekly column ‘Crime and Punishment’, where I oversee editorial content, mentor reporters, and shape narratives that inform, educate and engage for impact.

 

My career blends traditional journalism excellence with modern strategic communication expertise. I have built a portfolio spanning high-profile interviews, in-depth features, corporate storytelling, and consultancy work for local and international organisations rooted in shaping public policy, enhancing visibility for impactful projects and mapping effective communication directions.   • COSG is a Nigerian company providing integrated marine and aviation logistics services, primarily to the oil and gas industry. Lately, the company has diversified into boat manufacturing to ease transportation problems by unveiling water transportation initiatives in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub.

In August 2024, the company announced a strategic partnership with ExploMar (Suzhou) Energy Technology Co. Ltd. of China. This partnership marked a significant step towards sustainable transportation in Nigeria, as Caverton Marine integrates electric outboard engines from ExploMar into the recently launched passenger ferries aptly named OMIBUS.

Role:
l made meaningful contributions within the organisation alongside a talented and passionate communications team. Helped to provide communication support for both internal and external audience of the organization and other related matters, which aligned with the organisation’s objectives.

a. Dissemination of information through press releases, advertorials and helped prepare the CEO’s speeches alongside his aides.

SEforAll is an international organisation that works in partnership with the United Nations and leaders in governments to drive faster action towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7).

Under my roles as a Media Consultant, I successfully provided adequate publicity for the global launch of the Integrated Energy Planning Tool of Nigeria’s Federal Government in February 2022. The tool was a collaboration between the Nigerian government and SEforALL.

  • I played a lead role during the launch of Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan (ETP) on August 2022 by the then Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN. The aim was to establish the country’s strategy to reach a net-zero emissions energy system by 2060 and this was widely communicated through the media.
  • l also led media coverage efforts for SEforALL regarding the Universal Energy Facility (UEF), which was designed to make electricity accessible to SMEs (across Nigerian markets), underserved communities and tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
  • Spearheaded efforts that led to the extensive media coverage which heralded the World Bank President, Ajay Banga’s official three-day visit to Nigeria through which he engaged energy investors and stakeholders on addressing investment opportunity in renewable energy.

Role:
A consultant at the Energy Transition Office (ETO) guiding in key areas relating to public relations, advocacy, and providing communication support for the delivery of the office’s objectives and broader dissemination of the Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan (ETP).

  • Led thought leadership efforts through detailed articles in the newspapers showcasing the ETO’s activities across Nigeria.
  • Involved in stakeholder engagements initiatives to increase awareness about energy transition and climate change.
  • lnvolved in e-cooking advocacy in rural communities around Abuja and environs.

I  was a Media Consultant to National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on writing and executing a book project titled “Inside Story of Kashifu lnuwa Abdullahi’s Journey to IT Stardom” (146-page Compendium) which beams a search light on a remarkable journey marked by innovation, leadership and an unwavering pursuit of excellence of the current Director-General of NITDA, Mr. Kashif Inuwa Abdullahi, since the mantle of leadership fell on him.

 

Media Consultant, Rural Electrification Agency (REA)

The mandate of the agency under the  Federal Ministry of Power is to implement the Nigeria Off-Grid Electrification Programme, and the Nigerian Electrification Project (NEP).

I provided media support to the then managing director of the agency to fulfil the mandate by bridging the communication gap and publicising the activities of the agency as it traversed the length and breadth of Nigeria in solving energy poverty and connecting the underserved, rural communities and federal universities in 18 states across Nigeria.
